Chiefs shock Sundowns in Nedbank Cup semifinal

Kaizer Chiefs Football Club (FC) will face archrivals Orlando Pirates FC in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Chiefs came from 1-0 at halftime to eliminate Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the cup semifinal with a 2-1 victory at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday.

Sundowns went ahead just before halftime through a Teboho Mokoena (45+5’) freekick that sailed over the wall from the edge of the 18-yard area to give the homeside a lead.

In the second, Chiefs pressed hard for an equaliser when Wandile Duma intercepted a Lukas Suarez slow pass to put the ball away on the left side of the advancing Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

The 1-1 equaliser came in the 57th minute and Chiefs were truly back in the game.

With both teams all square before, few half chances were created from either side.However, Chiefs stole the game in the dying minutes (89′) when Ashley du Preeze turned away a cross sending the visitors to the final of the Nedbank Cup on May 10, 2025 in Durban.

Pirates knock Gallants out of Nedbank Cup

Meanwhile, Kabelo Dlamini’s 22nd minute goal against Marumo Gallants FC at Orlando Stadium in Soweto Sunday afternoon was enough to take Pirates to the Nedbank final.
