With 19 matches into the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership season, Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club are 26 points apart from Kaizer Chiefs FC placed 8th on the log after 18 games.
This afternoon, Sundowns host Chiefs at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, west Pretoria, at 15h30.
The objectives of these two big clubs in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) are as different as cast.
Although it can not be stated in absolute terms that the Brazilians [Sundowns] have secured the league title, it can be said with absolute certainty that Chiefs are pretty much out of the race.
Amakhosi [Chiefs] will be satisfied with a top eight finish at this stage of the Betway Premiership. They are behind by more than twice the number of points they have, an insurmountable gap.
As far as today’s clash goes, a Sundowns victory will further cement their lead at the summit of the table. Meanwhile, Chiefs win will improve their league standings up by two places.
In the first round, the Brazilians defeated Chiefs 4-1 away. Amakhosi are travelling to Pretoria to, among other imperatives, make amends of their disastrous previous league encounter.
