Orlando Pirates Football Club clinched the MTN8 Cup at the expense of Stellenbosch FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

Despite Stellies (Stellenbosch) getting a head start in the 12th minute of the first half through Lehlohonolo Mojela, the Soweto giants came from behind to win 3-1 in an exhilarating packed arena.

Monnapule Saleng levelled the scores 1-1 just two (2) minutes before half time. And in the second half both teams cancelled each other out.

However, the Buccaneers (Pirates) converted (90+1’) a quickly taken free kick on the referee’s added time.Tshegofatso Mabasa is the striker that netted the ball at the back of the net which caused a public stir.

Even so, Pirates put the game beyond reach when Relebohile Mofokeng rounded both the Stellies goalkeeper and defender in one fell swoop to make the score (90+6’) 3-1.

This is Pirates’ third successive MTN8 Cup victory, taking their total to 13 trophies.

On the other hand, Stellenbosch fell short of securing their maiden MTN8 Cup once again.

Therefore, Orlando Pirates are the champions of the 2024/2025 edition.
