Tebogo Letsile earned Botswana its first-ever in the men’s 200m final at the 2024 Olympics stage in the French city of Paris on Thursday, August 8th night.

He was up against men’s 100m champion Noah Lyles (19.70) and Kenny Bednarek (19.62) both from the United States of America.

Posting a time of 19.46, Letsile became the youngest athlete to win 200m since 1956 and the first sprinter ever from Africa. And, indeed, the time he ran is officially the African record.

Backhome, Letsile inspired the Batswana nation’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi to make Friday August 9th, a national holiday all to recognize and celebrate his herculean milestone in the global event.

Indeed,  Tebogo Letsile was up against the fastest and finest sprinters in the world. He is going to be seen again tomorrow (Saturday August 10th) in the men’s 4x400m final relay representing his proud country.
