Portugal’s 3-goal blaster against Türkiye in Group F secured them the next round spot in the UEFA European Championship 2024 held in Germany.
Played at the packed Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund tonight, Türkiye had no answers for the unbridled foray runs in their areas.
While Portugal pressed hard throughout the game, Türkiye absorbed pressure and stay deep most of the time.
Indeed, it came as no surprise when Bernardo Silva gave the Portuguese a head start in the 21st minute.
At one-goal down, Türkiye did not show a sense of urgency. It tried to frustrate and break Portugal play and made futile intermittent counter attacks.
As a consequence, it was not long until its defense was forced to make a mistake with a backpack that the goalkeeper missed.
That miscommunication between the defender and goalkeeper set Türkiye back by a 2-goal deficit.
The Portuguese put the final nail in the Türkiye coffin with a Bruno Fernandez tap in set up by the 39-year-old Christiano Ronaldo.
Nevertheless, Türkiye is still second in Group F, thanks to the three (3) points earned from the opening match.
So Portugal has six (6) points from the two games played and thus, qualified for the elimination phase.
Türkiye has it all in its last game against Czechia on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
On the day in the same group to be played simultaneously, Portugal will encounter Georgia.
Georgia and Czechia ends in draw
In Hamburg, Georgia drew 1-1 with Czechia at Volksparkstadion. Both sides earned their very first points in Group F.
The group is still open for a runner up behind Portugal.
Türkiye has an upper hand with its three points. Meanwhile, Georgia and Czechia are sitting on a point each and will both need a victory to advance.
Suffice to say Georgia will have the toughest of tasks when it finishes the Euro 2024 tournament with the all-firing Portuguese.
