The Germans hammered Scotland in a 6-goal rout in a night the Scottish will wish away in their collective memories as they begin their chase for the premium continental showpiece among  European nations.

The UEFA European Championship began on a higher note for the Germans as they annihilated Scotland 5-1 at the Allianz Arena in Munich,  Germany last night.

It seemed from the first minute Germany would walk all over Scotland with their flowing football possession in all areas of the field. And the scoreline proved so in the final analysis.

Germany’s expressive start is centred around an exuberant squad with highly talented young players such as Lamal Musiala and Wirtz among others.

Musiala and Wirtz, both 21,  were on the scoreboard in the 10th minute and 19th minute in their first elite European championship in national colours.

Additionally, the German coach Julian Nagelsmann is the youngest ever at 36-years of age.

Arsenal on-form striker Kai Havertz  made it 3-0 just on the stroke of half-time.

Ryan Porteous’ red card in the 45th munte did not help the Scottish case.

Then Germany capitalized on this numerical advantage. Niclas Füllkrug’s wonder strike put the game beyond doubt in the 69th minute. At 4-0 the Scottish were down and out.

They received a consolation goal thanks to Antonio Rüdiger (87’) who bundled the ball into his own net. But, it was too little too late.

As if the Germans had jot made their presence in this tournament felt enough, Emre Can scored their fifth goal (90+3′) of the night to dull everything about Scotland.

But the Scottish still have two fixtures (Switzerland and Hungary – both meeting this afternoon in Group A) to rebound and stay in the competition.

Even so, this emphatic glorious start to the Euro 2024 by Germany ended in 5-1. Thus, the quest for their 4th title is on course.
