The new President of South Africa will be elected today, June 14, 2024, in parliamentary seating at the Cape Town International Convention  Center in Cape Town.

This incumbent of the seventh government administration since the dawn of democracy in 1994 will be nominated on the floor and voted for by the National Assembly (NA) consisting of  400 members of parliament (MPs) who represent different political formations.

Similarly, the NA will nominate and elect both the Speaker of the House or Parliament and the Deputy Speaker.

Chief Justice Raymond Zondo will preside over the election of the NA Speaker. Then the Speaker will take over for the election of the NA Deputy Speaker and the President of the Republic. 

Contrary to previous administrations where this process was purely academic, this year there was no party that received 51% of the national votes required for an outright winner.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) od SA conducted the general elections on May 29, 2024 and declared free and fair elections outcomes on June 2, 2024.
