Zwane sublime strike secures a point for SA against Nigeria

Themba Zwane’s dribbling wizardry coupled with sublime strike secured a point for South Africa away to Nigeria Friday night.

This Group C fixture in the 2026 FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) World Cup qualification was played at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The travellers took the lead in the first half through Zwane’s (16’) wonderful goal.

However, Nigeria levelled the scores in the second half through Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (46′).

Although the Nigerians dominated possession in their backyard, the South Africans held their own. Both countries struck the woodwork in search of a winning goal.

But the match ended in a deadlock and a point apiece which takes them to four points equal with Rwanda and Benin.

Their positions remained 4th SA and 5th as they began the encounter.

Lesotho tops the group with six points. Rwanda are 2nd, Benin 3rd and Zimbabwe 6th with two points.

To this end, three games have been plaid in this.
