It is election day in South Africa (SA). The population is going to make a choice for the new leadership in national and provincial levels of governments.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the body vested with the authority to administer elections in SA, every citizen eligible to vote will be given an opportunity to exercise their voting rights from 07h00 to 19h00 on Wednesday,  May 29, 2024.

Of course, these rights should be fulfilled in a manner and spirit of free and fair elections in locations where the electorate registered to cast their votes.

This is the seventh general election since 1994 when a democratic regime was installed at the Union Buildings, the seat of government in Pretoria.

There are tens of candidates to select which makes it all the more difficult for the citizens to choose.

Pundits familiarised the 2024 elections with the first ever polls 30 years ago. This is because, for the very first time, they posit that the governing African National Congress is phased with prospects of securing a clear majority of 51% and above.

Poor service delivery

Indeed, there is a groundswell of the disgruntled populace arising from lack of proper public services in parts and wholesale no service delivery in other areas of the country.

Even the Commission of Enquiry in “State of Capture” chaired by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo made shocking revelations.

Among them are the wanton plundering of public funds by elected officials of government from the highest offices of the land.

To this day, none of those public servants fogered in the report has gone to prison for their shenanigans.

South Africans are confidence and trust in the current incumbents. It stand to reason that today is a decisive juncture at which citizens have to re-write history.
