The battle for the final spot of the Nedbank Cup looms large in Cape Town between Stellenbosch and Mamelodi Sundowns Sunday. The winner will meet Orlando Pirates at the beginning of June for the trophy decider.

An exhilarating Nedbank Cup semifinal tie between Stellenbosch Football Club (FC) up against Mamelodi Sundowns FC at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch takes center this afternoon.
The Sunday-match kick off of these two Premier Soccer League sides will be at 15h00 today.
Although the Brazilians [Sundowns] have an upper hand on paper, Stellies [Stellenbosch] are a well-coached team (by Steve Barker) with good results.
If anything, their league standing is testament to that. As a matter of fact, Stellies stunned Sundowns (2-1) out of the same cup in the quarterfinals last season in the semifinal.
For now, the jury is still out whether they will pull the same surprise against the fancied star-studded Mamelodians as they did a season ago.
For coach Rhulani Mokwena’s Brazilians, it is the opportune time to make amends and get one better against the Capetonians. After their exit in the Confederation of African Football Champions League last week and securing the domestic league title midweek, the 7th honours in the row, their focus is squarely on the Nedbank Cup.
Road to semifinal
Stellies hammered Supersport United FC – Sundowns Pretoria neighbours – by 4-0 avalanche scoreline in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile Sundowns scrapped through penalties (4-3) after a mere 1-1 draw with University Pretoria.
The crowning final
The winner will meet Orlando Pirates who eliminated Chippa United by 3-1 on Saturday in Gqebera, Eastern Cape Province.
This year’s final is scheduled for June 01 at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
