The much awaited DStv Premiership second round match between archrivals Orlando Pirates Football Club (FC) and Kaizer Chiefs FC delivered five wonderful goals.
It all begun with Ashley du Preeze stinging the Pirates net 6 minutes from kickoff off at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
Then an avalanche of goals, by South African standards, followed afterwards.
It was not long before the Buccaneers [Pirates] drew level from a Monnapule Saleng low drive in the 24th minute.
However, Amakhosi [Chiefs] restored their lead when du Preeze got his brace on the 44th minute. The visitors, Chiefs, went 2-1 up and stay as such going into the break.
In the second half, the hosts regrouped and upped the ante. On the 58th minute, parity was restored through a Thabang Lebitso longrange stunner.
Then Pirates took the game to Chiefs. Not be outshone by du Preeze, Saleng handed Pirates the 3-2 lead on the 68th minute with his second goal of the day.
Amakhosi tried their utmost to come out of their shells and salvage a point but it was not good enough.
The match involving these two old-fashied Soweto giants ended with the Buccaneers claiming the three critical points.
For Pirates, the victory pole vaults them to the 2nd on the log behind Mamelodi Sundowns FC. It is 33 points from 20 games for the Buccaneers.
Meanwhile Chiefs have dropped a notch down from 6th to 7th on the table after losing maximum points. They are on 29 points after 20 league matches.
On balance, the Soweto derby was good spectacle, thanks to the end-to-end attacking football that served over 86, 000 fans five fantastic goals.
