Bafana Bafana’s 24-year AFCON semi-final wait comes to a head against Nigeria

The 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) enters the semifinal stage today. On the schedule are Nigeria against South Africa (SA) and host nation Ivory Coast drawn with Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The South African senior men’s football team, known as Bafana Bafana, come face-to-face with Nigeria in the first semi-final match of the day.

Bouaké Stadium will offer the ideal conditions for the penultimate of the AFCON final between the Suuoer Eagles [Nigeria] and SouthAfrica at 19h00 in Bouaké.

Since 2001, South Africa have never got this far in the competition. Suffice to state that they have won it in 1996 and never again. On the other hand, the Super Eagles were crown African kings in 1980, 1994 and 2013.

To reach this critical point of the premium continental showpiece, Bafana Bafana eliminated Cape Verde while Nigeria overcame Angola.

The team that emerges victorious between Nigeria and SA battle for the prestigious of tournament with the winner between Ivory Coast and DRC.

In the same vein, the losers of this mouthwatering encounter will play for the 3rd-place bronze medal at Stade de Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday,  Feb. 10, 2024.

Ivory Coast battle for the final against DR Congo

In the second fixture,  Ivory Coast/Côde d’Ivoire win fight it out against the DRC at Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé in Abidjan.

The kickoff for this extremely anticipated tie is tonight at 22h00.

Côde d’Ivoire beat Mali in the quarterfinals to get to this stage meanwhile DR Congo saw off Guinea.

Olympic Stadium will also host the final match between tonight’s winners on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024 at 22h00.
