South Africa (SA) defied all odds by eliminating Morocco out of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the round of 16 at Stade de San Pédro in Yacuíba, Ivory Coast, on Tuesday night.
Morocco, the number one ranked country in Africa, suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of a well-determined Bafana Bafana [SA] team.
Starting as the underdogs, SA found the net twice, thanks to Evidence Makgopa’s (57’) left foot drive and Leboho Mokoena’s (90+5’) thunderous freekick.
Just before the second goal, the Atlas Lions [Morocco] squandered a penalty where Achraf Hakimi hit the crossbar.
