Senegal qualified for the second round of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after beating one of the toughest teams, Cameroon, in style.

Senegal romp through group stages of the AFCON 2023 in their second match in Ivory Coast/Côde d’Ivoire.

The Lions of Terenga hammered Cameroon (The Indomitable Lions) 3-1 at Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro on Friday, Jan.19, 2024. 

In a crunch match that saw an avalanche of fantastic goals, Senegal drew first blood in the 16th minute through Ismaïla Sarr to make the socre 1-0. In the 71st minute Habib Diallo doubled the lead.

However, Jean-Charles Castelletto’s 81st minute strike reduced the deficit to 2-1. But Sadio Mané (90+5’) expunged all hopes of the Indomitable Lions to summon any come back. The final score was 3-1.

Sitting comfortably on top of Group C from six points from two encounters, The Lions of Terenga will play Gambia in their final match. The former lost to Guinea by an ought goal from Aguibou Camara’s 69th minute at Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro last night.

In the same vein, Guinea occupy second place in this Group after accumulating four points in two games. Cameroon, the 201 7 champions, lies third from a mere one point after two fixtures with all its fire power.

They will face Guinea which has no single point in their final game. This is a must win for the Indomitable Lions to increase their chances of going into the knockout stages.
