Germany overcame a stubborn French team on penalties (4-3) to lift the 2023 FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) Under-17 World Cup at Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, Indonesia on Saturday afternoon.

The two European nations launched after attack, ending the match 2-2 all square.

Paris Brunner (29’) fired the Germany ahead through a penalty in the first half. To make their intents clear, Noah Darvich (51’) doubled the lead in the second half.

Before they were runover, Saïmon Bouabré (53’) halved the deficit to give the French a lifeline. As fate would have it, the Germans were dealt a blow when defensive midfielder Winners Osawe was sent off on the 69th minute.

France took the numerical advantage and Mathis Amougou (85′) levelled the scores before the end of regulation time.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup final was decided on penalties. Ultimately, the Germans won 4-3.

Mali clinches bronze

On Friday, Mali annihilated Argentina 3-0 to end 3rd place in the juveniles tournament taking bronze at Stadion Stadium.

The Malian goals came from three different players: Ibrahim Diara (9’), Mamadou Doumbia (45’) and Hamdiou Makalou (48’).

2023 Milestone

Germany have become the first country to win both the U-17 World Cup and the European Cup in their collective strides in the same year. Indeed, to this group of young footballers the 38-year-old FIFA tournament is the icing in the cake
