Messi earns historic eight Ballon d’Or

Argentina scintillating star Lionel Messi reached yet another milestone after winning the 8th Ballon d’Or for men’s football in Paris, France, on Monday Oct. 30, 2023.

Vying for the same honour were Manchester City Football Club duo Erlin Haaland (Norway) and Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium) as well as Paris Saint-Germain FC speedy striker Killian Mbappé (France).

Ballon d’Or is the highest acclaim in world football awarded to the most outstanding players across various clubs and/or national teams.

Now playing for Inter Miami in the United States of America, Messi helped his countrymen to win the 2022 FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) World Cup held in Qatar.

Regarding women’s football, FC Barcelona and Spanish midfield maestro Aitana Bonmatí  took the coveted Ballon d’Or Feminin.

The Other winners of Ballon d’Or 2023:

  • Kopa Trophy for the best male U-21 player Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid, England)
  • Yachine Trophy for the best male goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez (Astona Villa, Argentina)
  • Gerd Müller Trophy for the highest-scoring male striker Erling Haaland (Manchester City, Norway)
  • Socrates Award to acknowledge humanitarian work Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid, Brazil)
  • Club of the Year Manchester City and FC Barcelona Femeni
