The two Premier Soccer League juggernauts of South Africa’s elite and most followed sport are crossing paths yet again.

The battle for the MTN8 Cup final spot sees Kaizer Chiefs Football Club (FC) confront Mamelodi Sundowns FC in a semi-final at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg this afternoon at 15h00.

Chiefs are at home in this first match of the double-legged cup clash and will wish to end their decade-long trophy drought by securing a win this Saturday. Then, finish up the business three weeks later.

Meanwhile Sundowns will host Chiefs on the 3rd of September for their second-leg in Pretoria, their hometown. True to their form, they are expected 5o pile on pressure on Chiefs and do a double in a short space of time since the start of the new 2023/2024 campaign.

Indeed, just a little over three weeks ago both clubs met in the league draw where today’s host [Chiefs] suffered 2-1 defeat in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

That said, today it is a different kettle of fish as they are playing for a win not the league points. Although this afternoon’ encounter is not conclusive, it will aid in setting the sides in good stead to book a place in the MTN8 Cup final.
