Orlando Pirates Football Club (FC) beat Soweto neighbours Kaizer Chiefs FC 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Played in a bright Johannesburg afternoon at FNB Stadium, Pirates drew first blood just 14 minutes from kickoff through Kermit Erasmus tap in from a Saleng cross which the Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson failed to handle. From there, it did not seem both clubs would score until AmaKhosi’s [Chiefs] Yusuf Maart struck in the 79th minute. 

The lackluster cup-game ended 1-1 in regulation time and ultimately went into extra-time to settle the matter. It took Pirates substitute Sandile Mthethwa’s goal to put the game to bed. Since the Nedbank Cup penultimate face off, Kaizer Chiefs dominated the Soweto derby in the past five encounters.

The Buccaneers will be watching from the sidelines when Sekhukhune United travel to Stellenbosch FC for the last spot in the final. This fixture will kick off at 18h00 on Sunday evening.
