The 2023 installment of the Nedbank Cup pits Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch against Sekhukhune United on May 6.

With the defending Nedbank Cup Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club (FC) out of the contention, the 2023 edition of the honours is up for grabs. The current holders were eliminated in the quarterfinal of the tournament on Saturday by unfancied Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town.

For this reason, Stellies, as they are affectionately known in football circles, will face another lowly rated Premier Soccer League club, Sekhukhune United at Coetzenburg Stadium, Stellenbosch in Cape Town. 

Soweto derby

The other duel that completes the semifinalists in this competition are the old rivalries of Soweto: Orlando Pirates FC and Kaizer Chiefs FC. For the sheer spectacle of the game, the fanatics would have preferred this penultimate meeting in the final. However, the dice for the draw did not roll favourably. One thing for certain is that there will be one Soweto giant in the final.
