The national outcomes of the 2023 grade 12s, also known as matric, settled on 80.1%, the Minister of Basic Education in South Africa Angie Motshekga announced on Thursday.
The performance of the nine SA provinces from the highest to lowest percentages are as follows:
- Free State: 88.5%
- Gauteng: 84.4%
- KwaZulu-Natal: 83%
- Western Cape: 81.4
- North West: 79.8%
- Eastern Cape: 77.3%
- Mpumalanga: 76.8%
- Northern Cape: 74.2%
- Limpopo: 72.4%
The national results have gone up by 3.7% from last year’s percentages. The department said this outstanding performance was one of the significant showings topping the 80% mark since 2019 and the second highest since 1995.
