Brazil crush South Korea to reach World Cup quarterfinals

The South Koreans bowed out of the FIFA 2022 World Cup after suffering heavily at the hands of the Brazilians Monday Dec. 5 at Stadium 974 in Doha.

Brazil scored four times within the first 45 minutes of the game where South Korea only to score a consolation goal in the second halt. 

Vini Jnr (7′) led the charge with the first goal and Neymar (13′) made it 2-0 from a penalty kick. Richarlison (29) added his name on the score sheet and Lucas Paqueta (36′) took the Brazilian tally to 4-0.

When the match seemed lopsided in favour of the South Americans, Paik Seung-ho (76) gave the Koreans goal to reckon with their participation. Brazil won the duel by a resounding 4-1 and look sharper as they progress to the ultimate grand finale on Dec. 18, 2022.

It is a Qatar night they will like to forget as soon as they get home. However, the Koreans did well to reach the round of the last 16.

Croatia 1 (3-1 penalties) 1 Japan

Much earlier in the evening, Croatia overcame Japan on penalties after the round-of-16 World Cup match ended 1-1 in regulation time at Al Janoub Stadium in Al-Wakrah, Qatar.

Croatia will square up against Brazil in the quarterfinals of the World Cup at Education City Stadium in Ar Rayyan, Qatar, on Friday Dec. 9 at 17h00.
