Cameroon became the third African country to be eliminated in the group stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Saturday Dec. 2 following Ghana and Tunisia who suffered the same fate.

However, Cameroon pulled a surprise 1-0 win against the top-ranked Brazilian team in the world at Lusail Stadium in Lusail last night. Even though the win was significant for the Indomitable Lions, they bowed out of the global tournament due to a shortfall on the required qualifying points.

National team captain Vincent Aboubakar (90+2′) benefited from a cross towards the dying minutes of additional time in Group G of the 2022 World Cup vital match. After heading the ball into the back of the net, Aboubakar received a second yellow card (resulting in a red card) for taking off his jersey celebrating his rare goal against the mighty Brazilian force.

Although Brazil dominated the entire game, Cameron’s shots topper Devis Apassy was in stupendous form as he denied the ferocious opponents plenty of times. But Brazil had accumulated six points from their previous two fixtures leaving them leading the group and Switzerland coming second with similar numbers of points.

Cameroon finished 3rd in Group G and were eliminated alongside Serbia with just a point to show in this World Cup staged in Qatar.

In the last 16 of the knockout stage, Brazil will face South Korea on Monday Dec. 5 whereas Switzerland will do battle with Portugal on Tuesday Dec. 6.
