Ghana sharpens vengeance against Uruguay in vital World Cup clash

Friday | December 2, 2022

Ghana play Uruguay in a Group H critical FIFA World Cup game at Al Janoub Stadium in Al-Wakrah at 17h00.

The Uruguayans and Ghanaians have a difficult past in relation to this tournament. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup hosted in South Africa, Uruguay’s notorious handball by Luis Suarez prevented Ghana from proceeding to the semi-final at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Suarez perried the goal-bound ball while guarding the goal line which resulted in a penalty that Asamoah Gyan failed to convert into a critical goal.

Here they are in 2022 in Qatar meeting in Group H in a do or die encounter mainly for both nations. Ghana goes into this grudge clash with three points on the trot meanwhile Uruguay sits on a mere point needs a win at all costs.

A draw will favour Ghana depending on what happens between Portugal (who already qualified with six points) and South Korea in a similar position as Uruguay.

As far as the national teams that qualify to the last 16 of the world cup in Qatar, only the countries that lead the groups and the runners-up will progres s while the countries that emerge 3rd and 4th get eliminated outright.
