Thursday | November 24, 2022

Portugal got their 2022 World Cup campaign to a thunderous start by beating Ghana 3-2 in Doha tonight.

A game that started rather lukewarm in the first half, it turned the heat up in the second half with five enthralling goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo got the show going with a penalty to give Portugal the lead. Ghana restored parity through captain Dede Ayew. Then Portugal went ahead again with Rafael Leao’s touch of the ball coming in from the bench.

Ghana tried to push the number up to equalise but suffered a third goal score by Joao Felix. At 3-1 down, Ghana looked down and out. But it went until Andrew Ayew was introduced when they brought the game alive after he scored to make the score 3-2.

Just when he was drawing to the end, Inaki Williams snuck behind the Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa who seemed unaware of his surroundings. Williams sprinted and slipped on an attempt to make a turn and put the ball in the empty net. The nail-biting match ended on a high note.
