The United Kingdom (UK) subjects and the CommonWealth countries bid farewell to Queen Lisbet Elizabeth II in London, England.
This is the final stretch of her 70-year reign, accentuating it as the longest tenure of the monarch in British history. Never before has a funeral been embellished with so much fanfare right in the woke eyes of the astounded world.
She died at the age of 96 on Thursday, Sept. 8 at her home, the Palace, Balmoral in Scotland. The Queen’s body laid-in-state for several days doing rounds across some of the UK’s cities.
Her body was viewed in Edinburgh, Scotland, from Monday Sept. 12 to Tuesday Sept. 13 before it was moved from St Giles Cathedral to Edinburgh Airport to be flown (55min) to London accompanied by her daughter, Princess Anne. From there, it was escorted by an entourage enlisted for Royal duty and transported to Barkingham Palace.
Sky News reported on Tuesday that scores of people had gathered in queues in London to witness the Queen in last moments among the servants as she would be lying-in-state at Westminster Hall built in 1097.
This off course was planned for 24 hours according to CNN on Wednesday, Sept. 14 until it was taken to Westminster Abbey for the burial on Monday, Sept. 19.
Her son, Charles, was proclaimed the King in a procession ceremony on Saturday, Sept, 10. Therefore, the monarch did not wait for mourning proceedings to be finalized to succeed the Queen, his mother.
Before Saturday, Charles was the Prince of Wales. This stately throne is now occupied by his son, Prince Williams who is in line to succeed him as King.
The introduction and formalization of King Charles continued in the states of the United Kingdom.
Though held solemnly mixed with a sombre atmosphere, King Charles is officially the King of the United Kingdom as it tries hard to become the 21st kingdom.
Queen Elizabeth II is laid to rest today at Windsor Castle alongside her husband who died last year (2021).
She became Queen of the United Kingdom in 1952 when her father King George.
