Allende late strike stretches Sundowns lead

Monday | September 19, 2022

It took Marcelo Allende’s 91st minute goal for Mamelodi Sundowns FC to overcome AmaZulu FC’s well-organised defence in the DStv Premiership matches played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday.

Both teams had a number of goal chances to score during the league encounter but the goalkeepers were fantastic.

However, Sundowns had more clear-cut opportunities than Usuthu. Most of these fell onto the leading goalscorer Peter Shalulile and one on Themba Zwane.

Equally so, AmaZulu had their moments only to be denied by Rowen Williams’ spectacular double save in the first half.

This was AmaZulu’s 3rd defeat this (2022/2023) season. They have won three and drawn two earning 11 points which place them 6th on the log.

For the Brazilians though, yesterday’s victory takes them to 19 points from nine games, leaving Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay FC trailing by five points from the eight games they have played so far.

This was the last DStv Premiership League game for the month of September. The domestic league goes on an international break and will resume the beautiful game of the people on Oct. 4 2022.
