Chiefs salvage point against gusty Gallants

For once it seems Marumo Gallants FC would escape with maximum points against Kaizer Chiefs FC in their DStv Premiership clash at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday.

It was not until Zitha Kwinika headed home a late equalizer in the 84th minute that Gallants’ near perfect game was unsettled and all the potential three points evaporated.

Gallants was scored by Mahlatse Makudubela in the 12th minute, very early in the game. Just 16 minutes into the second, the hosts found themselves one-player down after Ismaël Olivier Toure was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

A point apiece did not help either side much in respect of their positions on the log except for Gallants moving one place from the bottom of the table from their seven league matches. They hopped Sekhukhune United FC because of a better goal difference but both teams are equal on six points.

Meanwhile Chiefs’ 7th game and a meagre 8-point collection did not alter their 14th standing on the log. Their next league encounter they will be playing at home against SuperSport United FC at FNB Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 17.

On the same day, Gallants will travel to Port Elizabeth to face Chippa United FC at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
