Siphelele Magubane’s 27th minute strike took Richards Bay FC to the top of the DStv Premiership League on Tuesday evening.

In an encounter dubbed the KwaZulu-Natal derby, they beat and leapfrogged Royal AM Football Club 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium in Chatsworth.

Quite deservingly, Richards Bay’s Somila Ntsondwana was chosen man-of-the-match at the end of the midweek league tie.

Royal AM were topping the league before this match and now they find themselves second on 13 points after eight games played in the 2022/2023 league edition.

Although equal on points, Richards Bay have better goal difference. The Premiership rockies have won four out of the seven league games so far. They drew one and lost two matches.
