AmaZulu Football Club needed the Lehlohonolo Majoro touch to book them a place in the MTN Top8 Cup Semi-finals when they clashed with Cape Town City FC in the quarterfinals at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday.
AmaZulu drew first blood in the first half of regulation time through Augustin Chidi Kwem in the 9th minute.
Khanyiso Mayo leveled the scores in the 46th minute of the cup game. The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
It was during extra-time that broke the resistance of The Citizens [City] through a 113th minute tap-in from Majoro to give AmaZulu 2-1 away from home.
It became difficult for the host to summon the courage to launch a fight back against the resolute Usuthu [AmaZulu] who managed the game until the final whistle.
Royal AM 1-2 Orlando Pirates FC
In the second MTN8 Cup quarterfinals,Vincent Pule gave Pirates an early goal 3 minutes from kick off that got the match going.
Played at the packed to Chatsworth Stadium in Chatsworth, the high-velocity of the encounter between these two Premier Soccer League clubs was helped by the collier evening conditions.
When Monyane Thabiso increased the Pirates lead to 2-0, it seemed Royal AM were slipping out of the first cup contest of the Premiership Soccer League (PSL).
Royal AM checked into the game in the 58th minute with a Mokete Mogaila strike. The MTN8 came alive. They pushed for an equalizer. However, Pirates, who were smelling victory, defended with all their might.
Although Royal AM tried all they could but they failed to crack the Pirates defence. The game ended 2-1 in favour of the travellers, Orlando Pirates.
