Swallows FC registered its first-win in the new DStv Premiership 2022/2023 campaign in Soweto on Tuesday night.
The Birds, playing host, beat Cape Town City 3-2 in a goal-feast match to walk away with the three maximum points at stake. This was the second game after losing to Orlando Pirates over the past weekend.
Waseem Isaacs (16′) and Tshediso Patjie (23′) fired Swallows to a first-half 2-goal lead. Darwin Gonzalez (31′) reduced the deficit for City. Thundering back determined from the break, Khanyiso Mayo restored parity in the 61st minute.
The league match was on balance until Marc van Heerden considered a penalty in the 93rd minute before the final whistle. Siboniso Mtshali converted the spot kick to send the The Birds soaring high.
For The Citizens [City], this is the second defeat of the season. The players responded and acquitted themselves well until the dying minutes where the game was lost through a contentious (own emphasis) penalty, said City head coach Eric Tinkler.

Chiefs trash Maritzburg 3-0
Kaizer Chiefs FC rebounded to winning ways with a resounding 3-0 victory against Maritzburg United FC on Tuesday night at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
Ashley Du Preez opened the floodgates on the 4th minute from kick off to give Amakhosi [Chiefs] a much-needed advantage. A defensive blunder and a poor clearance by the Maritzburg keeper led to a Keagan Dolly’s strike into the empty net 20 minutes later. Mduduzi Shabalala slotted in the final goal of the league encounter in the 95th minute.
