The Premier Soccer League (PSL) sees more 2022/2023 DStv Premiership games back in full swing after the first official opening match between Cape Town City FC and Mamelodi Sundowns Friday night.
This afternoon, Orlando Pirates FC entertains Swallows FC at Orlando Stadium in Soweto at 15h00.
Swallows survived the relegation drop after pulling through on the last day of the Premiership play-offs against University of Pretoria on Jun. 15. Given this backdrop, they are the weakest opponents on their short trip to Pirates.
On the contrary, the host finished in the top eight (6th on the log) and are likely to dominate in their duel with Swallows. On paper, they should break no sweat. However, they will receive their marshaling instructions from a totally new technical management bar, their former coach Mandla Ncikazi (assistant).
The Pirates’ new head coach José Riveiro, a Spaniard, will be making his debut in a PSL commissioned game.

Having said that, both Pirates and Swallows are coming from a long layoff which may expose their rustiness in this competitive match.
Therefore, the team that conserves its energy against unavoidable devastating depletion may come up trumps by the end of regulation time of the face-off. At stake are the usual three points in their first fixtures of their first round of games.
