Orlando Pirates Football Club (FC) opened their 2022/2023 DStv Premiership account with a narrow 1-0 victory over Swallows FC at Orlando Stadium in Soweto Saturday afternoon. 

The host got off to the starting block in a fiercy mood and were eventually rewarded three points at stake for all their efforts. The only goal of the game scored by Bienvenu Eva Nga (10′) proved too high for The Birds to reach and level on a busy Saturday Premiership league day. 

Pirates looked the sharper side of the two clubs. Although the visitors tried to put up fight and stage a come back, the host were more organised.

The derby between the two oldest Soweto clubs was a well-attended match among a number of Premier Soccer League fixtures that spotted a hunger of fans returning to various stadia in the new season.
