Cape Town City went down to Mamelodi Sundowns in the opening fixture of the DStv Premiership 2022/2023 league race in Cape Town Stadium tonight, Aug. 5.

Sundowns started their league defense in emphatic style, courtesy of Aubrey Modiba’s 61st and Themba Zwane’s 63rd goals.

Staged in Cape Town floodlights sky, City’s home ground, the game was very tight and unpredictable until the second half when the visitors exploited their two chances in extraordinary finesse. The match ended 2-0 in a relatively well-attended Friday night clutch after a long off-season break.
