Ex-Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe was fatally shot at a campaign rally delivering a speech in Nara, Japan.

Al Jazeera and CNN reported that he was shot by a 41-year old man. Report alleged that the shooter fired a home-made gun. Abe was rushed to hospital and died under medical care. Nara Medical University, cited by CNN, found that Shinzo Abe died from gun-inflicted wounds on the neck and chest which led to a lot of blood loss.

CNN further intimated that the unemployed suspected man admitted to the assassination. According to this report, the man indicated that the former PM belonged to an alliance he hated. 

Coming into office in 2006-2007 and 2012-2020, Abe became the Japanese longest serving PM. He resigned in 2020 as a result of ill-health. He died at the age of 67.

Japan is one of the G7 countries representing the highly developed economies in the world. It is considered to be one of the safest places in the world, experts say.
