Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club entrenched their Group A lead after beating Al Ahly Sporting Club 1-0 in the Confederation of African Football Champions League Saturday afternoon in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Egyptian giants came unstuck for the second time in the same competition in the hands of Sundowns. This is the first double win by the Pretorians against Al Ahly at home and away in the same season.

Sundowns are 10 points clear at the top after four games. The defending African Champions are tied on four points with Al Hilal Omdurman and Al-Merreikh Al-Sudan in Group A. All these teams have played four games and with two remaining fixtures, it is clear that they will be fighting for the second position to qualify for the quarterfinals.

It does not seem likely that Sundowns will throw away its advantage given their momentum at this stage. Again, it is unfathomable that Al Ahly may fail to get maximum or sufficient points to make the cut for the last top eight Champions League sides. That said, the second spot has been thrown up for the challenge by any club in this group.
