The rejuvenated South African (SA) senior national football team win affirmed its place at the top of Group G in the race to Qatar 2021 FIFA World Cup.

The traveling Ethiopia came down hard against the youthful Bafana Bafana [SA] yet again at FNB Stadium last night. Although the final score was 1-0, thanks to Getaneh Kebede (11′ OG), the host secured a cool 3-point bounty.

This World Cup qualifying victory translate into South Africa 10 points with two games to end the group games. 

Ghana beat Zimbabwe last night in the same grouo and lie 2nd being SA on nine (9) points after four games as well. Ethiopia it’s on the 3rd spot with three (3) points while Zimbabwe are last with a mere point from a draw with Bafana Bafana.

The biggest surprise in SA is the new-look Bafana Bafana under the guidance of the Belgian Hugo Broos who came in May this year. If the successful streak of results by the national side are any hint, Broos’ transition into South African football has been pretty smooth so far. He made former Bafana Bafana international Helman Mkhelele for the ease of his assimilation his assistant coach.

Talking to Thabiso Mosia on SAfm, SAFA (South African Football Association) CEO Danny a Jordan admitted that they did not think Hugo Broos would make a total overhaul of the known Bafana Bafana players. Broos dropped the players who were prominent and called past. He has taken a road less traveled by injection impetus through young stars.

The conversation about football in European does not involve South Africa; it, however, revolves around Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast, Broos commented recently.

It is quite evident that his approach is to turn the fortunes of SA football by unearthing and exposing more young players at a senior national level.
