Bafana aims for a double against Ethiopia in WC Qualifiers

South Africa – Football fans will make their way to stadium for the first time since the emergence of the global pandemic 18 months back.

The South Africa senior man’s football side (affectionately known as Bafana Bafana) is aiming for a second victory against Ethiopia in four days. 

The FIFA (Federation of International Football Association) World Cup qualification game will take place at FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg on Tuesday at 18:00.

On Saturday, Oct. 9, Bafana Bafana beat Ethiopia 3-1 away to top “Group G” with seven points. A step closer to Qatar 2022.

Tonight’s game will see the return of fans in the stadium since the Covid-19 outbreak in Mar. 2019. According to government, only 2, 000 vaccinated soccer fans will be permitted to attend this critical world cup qualifying match at the 94, 000 seater stadium. This is the maximum number of people allowed to gather in an outdoor event.

Flowing from this, SAFA (the South African Football Association) extended its appreciation to:

the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture as well as the Minister of Health for their support of the ground-breaking initiative of the Return of Fans to the stadium.
