Sundowns defeat Chiefs convincingly

It was one of the biggest matches of the weekend in the Premier Soccer League. It played out as expected. It ended 2-0 in favour of the home team. Nonetheless, a great spectacle of a football match between the two South African colossus of the beautiful game all round. 

As competitive games go, Mamelodi Sundowns emerged victorious against Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria in the DStv Premiership clash on Sunday.

The 1st goal of the epic match came from new signing Grant Kekana through a pinpoint header. Chiefs mounted a fierce fightback but could not convert all their promising chances. 

The traveller’s situation turned pear-shaped when Peter Shalulile tap-in doubled the lead in the second half from close range. Chiefs’ day was wrapped up by Lebogang Manyama’s penalty miss that could have changed the complexion of the game. 

Sunday’s win pushed Sundowns to seven points and on top of the league table in their 3rd league game of the 2021/22 season. Although it is still early days, Sundowns league defence may well have started.
