The Covid-19 infections are on the rise in South Africa (SA) as the pandemic reaffirms its lethal presence in these shores.

There are 8, 881 cases that have been reported in the past 24 hours and 127 deaths.

Of these cases, the Gauteng Province accounts for 5, 111 reported today, making it one of the main hot-spots of the current resurgence.

A day before, SA reported 4, 209 infections. This shows a jump by over 100% on Wednesday. Today’s announcement by the Department of Health cements the fact that the country has surely entered the 3rd wave of Covid-19.

Accordingly, the increasing numbers are in line with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s speech last Friday when he announced the adjustments of restrictions to curb the spread.

Since Covid-19 pandemic outbreak last year, South Africa has confirmed 1, 712, 939 infections and recorded 57, 310 deaths.
