Mamelodi Sundowns have regained the top-of-the-table position after Amazulu Football Club overtook them 24 hours ago.

They returned to the top of the Dstv Premiership League standings when trashed Orlando Pirates 3-0 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Sunday, May 2.

In a first-half characterized by a slow start and defensive tactics, Sundowns turned on the screws in the second-half. Their efforts were rewarded by three goals from Ricardo Nascimento, Peter Shalulile and Lyle Lakay. And it could have been more if The Brazilians capitalized all their chances when Pirates were on the ropes.

The Buccaneers seemed to have no answers for the clinical Mamelodi team. Orlando Pirates remain on their 5th spot on the log with 39 points after 24 league games played so far.

Sundowns are now 51 points, two points ahead of 2nd-placed Amazulu, after 24 league games. Furthermore, they still have two games to see off. The lead could stretch. But all that will be determined by the remaining league fixtures.
