Kaizer Chiefs plotted a massive comeback to end Mamelodi Sundowns’ undefeated run in a Dstv Premiership League match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Sunday.
Sundowns fired their single goal through Gastón Sirino in the first of the match. The Uruguayan rounded Chiefs keeper Itumeeng Khune before he slotted home. Sundowns dominated most of the game but could not get a cushion goal to put the game to bed.
In the second half Chiefs looked refreshed and were rewarded when Samir Nurković’s cross deflected off Mosa Lebusa and found the back of the net. Within one heartbeat, Dumisani Zuma secured a second for Chiefs and they were 2-1 up against the unbeaten Sundowns.
This is Chiefs’ 6th win of the season and propelled them to position 8 with 28 points on the trot. It is an incredible result for Amakhosi after a string of horrible outcomes in this 2020/2021 edition of the Dstv Premiership.
For The Brazilians, it is back to rearranging their deck chairs which have given them so much joy until today. They looked offbeat today albeit their dominance throughout the entire game. Their 47 accumulated points still secure them on the summit of the log. If this Sunday afternoon’s results are anything to note, there is more football to be played.
