Minister of Health in South Africa (SA) Dr. Zweli Mkhize has announced that Johnson and Johnson (J&J) vaccine for Covid-19 as a precautionary step to prevent adverse effects of the jabs.

The announcement by Dr. Mkhize follows the halting of the J&J vaccine by the Center for Diseases and Control (CDC) as well as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States (US).

According to CNBC:

‘The Food and Drug Administration asked states on Tuesday to temporarily halt using Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine “out of an abundance of caution” after six women in the U.S. developed a rare blood-clotting disorder that left one woman dead and another in critical condition.’

SA has not reported any incidents of blood clots related to Johnson and Johnson vaccine, the only vaccine which was being administered until this announcement by the SA government. The Minister underscored that Covid-19 innocolution drive will continue after the investigations are through from J&J and the US.
