In football parlance, football derbies are bigger than the honours at stake.

Today, Cape Town (CT) City FC will do battle against Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership League clash at Cape Town Stadium this afternoon.

This Cape derby will start at 15:00 in a fierce fight for the three points in league contest.

For Stellenbosch, it will not be much for the bragging rights of Cape Town as in salvaging any point to save their skins. They lie 13th in league standings. It is not a pretty position at all in the second round of the league games.

Not so for The Citizens [Cape Town City]. They are 7th on the league table after gathering 25 healthy points in their 18 league-matches crusade. They are playing well of late and come up tops as favourites in the derby league square up.

On 15 points accumulated so far, just three points from Black Leopards at the bottom, Stellies are precariously hanging on the 13th spot of the log.

Fair enough, Stellenbosch have played 16, two less games than Cape Town City in the 2020/21 league campaign.
