It is yet another big footballing Saturday for the struggling Soweto giant, Kaizer Chiefs. They will have a shot to redeem themselves when they welcome the scintillating SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership League match at FNB Stadium (Soccer City) in Johannesburg at 15:00 today.
The midweek 2-1 loss at home to AmaZulu FC left a thick lump on their [Chiefs] throats. Home defeats are not easy to accept, even worse to lowly rated clubs. They go toe-to-toe with SuperSport United, one of the highly organised, disciplined and offensive clubs in the Premier Soccer League.
Sitting on four (4) meagre wins after 16 league games, Chiefs are set to make amends and push their accumulated 18 points to 21. A win this after will not make much of a difference on their 9th position on the log, but it will sure go a long way.
Contrary, SuperSport will be in search of a victory to reduce the Mamelodi Sundowns 5-point gap at the summit to a mere two (2). Breathing heavily down Sundowns’ necks on 2nd, they are on a vintage point to take advantage while the log leaders are not in league action this weekend.
From the 16 league games played so far, SuperSport earned a healthy 31 points; Sundowns are on 36.
A 13-point gap separates SuperSport and Chiefs before this afternoon’s league meeting.
Although maximum points have been hard to come by for Amakhosi [Kaizer Chiefs], they have managed to get draws on six occasions. Again, this may also be a sign of things to come for them in the 2020/21 DStv Premiership League season. A win will be a big boost for the Amakhosi faithful and the players with their technical team.
However, the Pretorians [Matsatsantsa] have had a good run by their own league standards. Given their current momentum, it does not seem they will let up any time soon. The worst that could happen today is a loss. Nevertheless, if their form is any indication, they will guard against this regressive premonition with all their might.
