Greyhound, one of the long-haul passenger bus transport, is folding after 37 years in operation.

The company announced today that it will, together with Citiliner, be closing shop for good this February. They have set the 14th as the last day for journeying in and around South Africa (SA). In its statement IL Greyhound has reassured customers who bought tickets far beyond Feb. 14, 2021 that it will refund them.

As the economic downturn takes its toll, many businesses are struggling mainly as a result of the Covid-19 fallout across the country and around the world. In SA, government restrictions are assisting with  slowing down the spread of the pandemic but they are inadvertently having devastating consequences for businesses.

Protracted spells of less travel and tourism have hit the long distance transport industry big. The latest pronouncements by Greyhound are evidence to this enough. The decimation of lives and livelihoods triggered by the scourge of coronavirus remains one of SA’s bugbear in the intervening period as it is in other countries in the world.
