Accomplished and celebrated jazz and opera musician Sibongile Khumalo passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28.

Newzroom Afrika reported that Khumalo “died of stroke related complications”. The world-renowned Soweto-born musician was born in 1957, Orlando West township in Johannesburg.

South African (SA) Presidency noted some of her remarkable achievements as:

“Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Music in 1993, four South African Music Awards for her light music and jazz recordings, and three FNB Vita Awards for her opera and concert work.”

Better known for her contribution in growing the SA music, especially jazz and opera. Furthermore, “[s]he also led the South African and New Zealand national anthems at the World Cup rugby final in 1995,” The Presidency highlighted.
