Jackson Mthembu, the Minister in the Presidency, has passed away as a result of COVID-19 complications, a statement from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s office confirmed.

Further, the statement said that Mthembu died earlier on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021. “Minister Mthembu was an exemplary leader, an activist and life-long champion of freedom and democracy,” it emphasized.

Mr. Mthembu was 62 years of age.
