It was always coming. But a million is never an easy milestone to notch. However, for a virus that has been ravaging the world this is hardly surprising.
With the 9, 502 new Covid-19 infections reported yesterday, South Africa breached a million – 1, 004 413. There were 214 new deaths recorded on Dec. 27, taking the tally of the commutative number of dead people due to coronavirus to 26, 735.
Authorities are rising concerns from as the hospitalization of high number of patients outstrip supplies. As some hospitals are full to capacity and running out of beds, the number of medical staff who are getting infected by the coronavirus epidemic is increasing alarmingly.
The South African government has been holding meetings regarding strategies on how to handle this sudden surge of the pandemic.
Accordingly, President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Monday (night) at 20:00.
