Chippa United have appointed their former mentor Dan “Dance” Masilela as the new head coach of the club.

Ever so prone to axing coaches at the drop of a hat, Chippa have effectively replaced Lehlohonolo Seema with Masilela on Sunday, Dec. 27.

The Chilli Boys hit a poor run of form under Seema’s guidance in recent encounters in the domestic high-stakes football league – the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was Chippa’s last game before Christmas against AmaZulu FC. Seema lost 3-1 in that game on Dec 20. His fate was sealed.

The Eastern Cape-based club has entrusted Masilela with the daunting task of finishing among the top (8) contenders in the DStv Premiership League by season end.

The club statement which broke Masilela’s appointment promises to review his short-term contract which folds in the 2020/21 fall of the season. Further, Chippa United have nailed their masts on Masilela to help them achieve their somewhat lofty goals.

The Chilli Boys harvested Dan Masilela from upon his axing by a relatively new club TS Galaxy from Mpumalanga, the eastern region of South Africa.

Granted, Chippa are not the heavy-heaters of the PSL by any stretch of imagination. If anything, they are embroiled in the relaxation fistfight every so often. However, the club’s chairman Siviwe Mpengesi extended his well wishes to the new head coach. Again, the club statement lauds Masilela as the relevant coach who understands Chippa’s circumstances at this juncture.

Nevertheless, the club under Mpengesi leadership is famed for its erratic management style of chopping and changing coaches willy-nilly. Already, skeptics are anticipating and speculating how long Masilela is going to last. That is how unstable the coaching job is at Chippa United.

Yet, Masilela is now the current coach. He and his players will travel to Pretoria for his first game in charge on Jan.6, 2021 against a semi-giant SuperSport United in a league draw.
