Motjeka Madisha, Mamelodi Sundowns FC defender, allegedly died as a result of a car accident, Newzroom Afrika announced his death on Sunday morning.
Born in 1995, Madisha was one of the brightest rising stars at Sundowns, the Pretoria-based South African (SA) football club powerhouse. Motjeka Madisha joined The Brazilians from Highlands Park FC in 2016.
He was one of the influential scintillating players who brought the treble to Sundowns last season, 2019/20. Madisha was part of the Bafana Bafana – SA senior national soccer team – fold.
The tragic death of Madisha comes after Anele Ngcongca, former SA International and Sundowns defender, lost his life in similar circumstances recently.
Tributes
An outpour of tributes and sympathies streamed far and wide to both the Madisha’s family and the club.
The custodian of football in the country, South Africa Football Association (SAFA), shared its deepest sympathies. It’s statement said:
“SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan and Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki have expressed shock and regret following the tragic passing away of rising Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana defender Motjeka Madisha.”
The Premier Soccer League (PSL), the administrator of domestic professional football, expressed its grief on Twitter – @officialPSL:
“The Premier Soccer League is saddened by the tragic death of Motjeka Madisha- a humble and promising talent. The young diski challenge product had a great future ahead of him. Our condolences to @Masandawana and the Madisha family.”
One of the main contributors ascendency to a professional and national team player he became is his former coach Pitso Mosimane. Mosimane left Sundowns for yet another continental giant, Al Ahly Sporting Club of Egypt. The club [Al Ahly] extended its condolences.
